About ToolPlank

ToolPlank is a growing collection of free, no-nonsense online tools for developers and writers. Here's why it exists, how it works and who runs it.

Why ToolPlank exists

I'm Waqas Ahmed, a software developer from Pakistan, and I built ToolPlank because I kept running into the same small annoyance. Every few days I'd need to fix a string, convert a format or check a value, and the first search result would be a page full of pop-ups, banners and tools that wanted me to sign up before they'd do anything.

None of those jobs deserve a sign-up form. They deserve a clean page where you paste your input, look at the result and get on with your day. That's the whole idea behind this site.

What you'll find here

Each tool lives on its own page and follows the same few rules:

  • One tool, one job. You don't have to dig through a dozen options to do a simple thing.
  • Live results. The output updates as you type, so there's no convert button to hunt for.
  • Private by default. The tools run in your browser, so what you paste stays on your device.
  • Explained properly. Every tool comes with a short guide, worked examples and honest answers to the questions people actually ask.
  • Comfortable on any screen. Dark and light themes follow your system and the layout works on a phone.

How the tools are made and checked

I write the logic for each tool myself and try it against the awkward inputs that usually break things: empty text, very long text, unusual characters, mixed line endings and plain invalid input. If a tool can't convert something, it tells you why instead of leaving you with a blank box.

The guides under each tool are meant to be useful on their own. I try to explain what is really going on, include examples you can copy and point out the mistakes people commonly make. When I get something wrong, I fix it and update the date shown on the page.

How ToolPlank is funded

ToolPlank is free to use. A domain, hosting and the time it takes to build and maintain each tool all cost something, so the site may show ads served by Google AdSense. Ads are kept away from the input and output areas, and they never change what a tool produces.

Who is behind the site

ToolPlank is built and maintained by one person. If you'd like to know more about my work, you can find me on LinkedIn and GitHub.

I read every message sent through the Contact page, and ideas for new tools are always welcome.
